Almuñécar

Do you dream of sun-drenched beaches, cozy streets and that real Spanish feeling? Then Almuñécar is your place. This charming coastal town on the Costa Tropical combines relaxed holiday vibes with history, nature and the kind of atmosphere that makes your heart beat faster. Think: classic Spain, where you still get a free tapa with your drink on the terrace. Yes, that Spain.

This place is full of history. Even in the time of the Phoenicians – when it was still called Sexi – there was a coming and going of different peoples here. The Romans, Arabs… they all left their mark. The San Miguel castle has looked out over the city for centuries and offers you a magnificent view of the sea. And then there is the old Roman aqueduct – still impressive, even after all this time.

Take a leisurely stroll through the old town centre and you will automatically come across narrow streets, white houses, cosy squares and terraces where life passes you by at a relaxed pace.

There is always something going on in Almuñécar. During Semana Santa you will see colourful parades everywhere, and in June San Juan bursts into life on the beach – bonfires, fireworks, music and dancing until the sun comes up. In the summer it is a real party: weekly markets, nice evening markets, live music, tapas tasting... boredom is not an option here!

Sun on your skin, sand between your toes and a gentle breeze from the sea – welcome to the coast! In the area you will find no less than 26 beautiful beaches, ranging from wide, golden sandy beaches to hidden coves surrounded by rugged cliffs. A favourite with many: Playa Puerta del Mar, within walking distance of the centre. Here you can flop down under a parasol, order an ice-cold caña and enjoy the smell of freshly grilled sardines rising from the beach bars. In the mood for some adventure? The crystal-clear water invites you to snorkel, kayak or simply float endlessly.
